the wheels horsepower using the same

‘And because we’re so into the whole
scene, we like to help solve problems for
people and develop products that we
would want for ourselves: we now even
have customers from America and
Australia coming to us for advice and not
just for the products we sell.
‘But in addition to selling performance
parts and offering technical advice, we
like to show people how to get more
involved in grassroots motorsport –
trackdays, Autosolo, American autocross,
Targa rallies, the sort of events where
you can use your car in a competitive
way without breaking the bank.
‘As our way of giving back to the
community we do our best to get
involved in MX5OC trackdays and we’ve
held a couple of Autosolos at their
events, which have been very well

received. It gives people the opportunity
to see what their cars are capable of in a
rewarding yet low-risk setting. It’s
something we hope to continue offering.
‘If someone wanted to do this
competitively, membership of a car club
is typically about £15 for the year, while
a day’s competitive racing is usually
between £30 and £40 per person. That
usually includes multiple track layouts –
between three and four – with three runs
on each in the morning and two to three
in the afternoon. The runs are timed and
competitive, but you’re in the company
of friendly, like-minded people.
Autosolos reward considered, controlled
and smooth driving – tyre pressures,
suspension setup and your ability to
accurately position the car really come
into play here.’
Although Dan is an avid champion of
basic motorsport, he admits that BOFI

Racing has ambitions to find fresh
challenges. The company has already
dabbled in the Time Attack
championship and would like to do
more, and has experience in Gymkhana,
too. BOFI has also provided technical
support for a team competing in the
Race of Remembrance at Anglesey:
‘Yeah, we’d like to do that again,’
concedes Dan, ‘but in our own car.’
Meanwhile BOFI continues to be a
repository of information on how to tune
your MX-5; about what parts work best,
as tested by the team or recommended
by trusted experts; and about what build
techniques will help you achieve a car
that best suits your personal preferences
and the tracks you intend to drive on.
Dan, Leigh and James may now be
businessmen, but first and foremost they
remain diehard MX-5 fans – long may
that continue!

line-up has grown,

reflects the fact that
at its heart, BOFI
Racing is all about
having fun and
enjoying your car;
