I

have made this necklace

for Ellen DeGeneres as she

has recently purchased a

beachside residence in Malibu. She

is also the voice of Dory the fi sh

in the Disney/Pixar fi lm Finding

Nemo and the new release Finding

Dory. I feel this sea-inspired piece

would look great on her. The

pearl, silver and grey beads would

be perfect adorning her simple

monochrome style.

HOW TO MAKE

1

1. Thread the end of the Nymo
   beading cotton through the eye
   of a beading needle and thread
   on several beads to reach an
   approximate length of 12cm. The
   longer the string of beads threaded
   onto the cotton, the longer your
   loop will be.


2. Repeat Step 1, threading
   a diff erent shaped bead onto
   another length of Nymo. Repeat
   this twice more so you have four
   separate strings of beads all of the
   same length. This is set 1. Now
   repeat this step so you create a
   further four sets of four strings of
   diff erent beads.


3. Take one of the strings from
   set 1 and simply tie the two ends
   together creating a loop of beads.
   Repeat for the remaining three
   strands in set 1.


4. Take one string of beads from
   set 2, pick up all four loops of
   beads from set 1 and thread one
   end of the new string through all
   four loops. Then tie the two ends
   of that string together. Repeat
   this so you join all of set 2 beads
   onto the loops of set 1, creating
   two loops. Repeat again with sets
   3, 4 and 5.
   5. Fold 50cm of suede in half
   and thread the halfway loop
   through all the beaded loops on
   the left-hand side. Take the ends
   of the suede and pass them back
   through the halfway loop of suede
   and pull, securing the suede onto
   the beaded loops. Then thread a
   large holed bead onto both ends of
   suede and slide along to meet the
   beads. Repeat this step to add a
   piece of suede to the other side.
   6. Cut both suede cords on either
   side to the desired length. My
   design is 40cm in total length.
   Crimp both suede ends on one side
   into a ribbon crimp. Use nylon jaw
   pliers so you don’t mark the crimp
   when you squeeze it closed. Repeat
   for the other side. Finally add a
   clasp using small jumprings.
