ello! and welcome to the August issue.
What could be better for the height of
the summer than a sea theme?
Our UK coastline and the seaside that
surround us off er great inspiration when
it comes to designing jewellery; from the
beautiful colours of the sand and water to the
texture of shells and pebbles. My favourite
designs in this issue on that theme are Lisa
Floyd’s pebble pendants (p78). I love the way
she has combined natural pebbles with gold
foil to create really stunning pieces.
This month I’ve been playing again and
it’s great to get involved with the creation of
techniques and projects for MJ. Sometimes the
task of being the Editor takes over and I forget
that underneath it all I’m really a jeweller. So
this month I’ve been doing a bit of stamping. I
don’t know about you but I’m a little obsessed
with word jewellery – I’m not sure why I like it
so much but I fi nd myself drawn to pieces that
have names or phrases on them. So I’ve done
a technique for you that covers stamping and
cutting hanging holes in metal blanks (p71).
I’ve also included a project spread on using the
blanks and have made a range of bracelets and
pendants to show you how versatile stamped
blanks are (p56).
