Mountain Province Finds 95-ct Diamond


Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. announced on
May 30th, 2018, the recovery of a 95-carat gem diamond
from the Gahcho Kué mine located in the Northwest
Territories, Canada. The diamond was included in the
fancies and specials parcel acquired by Mountain Province
in the most recent Gahcho Kué production split.
The diamond recovered was a 95-carat white octahedron
of top clarity. It is the largest gem quality stone and
the fourth largest stone recovered from the mine since
production commenced less than two years ago. Reid
Mackie, the company’s vice president, Diamond Marketing,
said, “The recovery of this diamond firmly establishes

GIA Launches Proprietary Cut Program For Grading Reports


Gemological Institute of America (GIA) laboratory clients
can now participate in GIA’s Proprietary Cut Program for
diamonds with branded cut names. GIA grading reports
for diamonds submitted as part of this programme will
include the branded name of the proprietary diamond cut
above the diamond shape and cutting style description.
Clients who would like to participate in this programme
will be required to provide supporting documentation,
including diamond facet arrangement. Only clients
who have completed the documentation will be able to
submit diamonds as part of this programme. For more
information or to apply for this programme, clients
should contact their client services representative. This
enhancement to diamond grading report services is
offered at no additional charge. 


The Proprietary Cut Program includes branded cut names on GIA
grading reports for diamonds. In the image, the sample proprietary
cut name is listed above the shape and cutting style description.

HRD Antwerp To Set Up Diamond Grading Lab In Moscow


In the context of the KP Intersessional that took place
in mid-June, which brought the diamond world to
Antwerp, the Russian ministry of finance, represented
by the deputy minister of finance Aleksey Vladimirovich
Moiseev, signed a memorandum of understanding with
HRD Antwerp for the establishment of an HRD Antwerp
diamond grading lab in Moscow.
Ari Epstein, president of the board of directors of
HRD Antwerp, emphasised the importance of Russia as
the world’s largest producer of rough diamonds, and as
an industry leader when it comes to transparency in the
value chain. “This collaboration will further enhance
confidence in the diamond and jewellery market in
Russia and worldwide,” said Epstein. The signing of
the agreement took place in the presence of Ludo Van
Campenhout, Antwerp Alderman for Diamonds. 

The 95-carat diamond will be presented at Mountain
Province’s upcoming rough diamond tender with viewings
to be held from June 11th to 22nd in Antwerp, Belgium. 
