India Pavilion At JCK Las Vegas Marks Its 15th Year

Indian gem and jewellery exporters participated
under the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion
Council’s India Pavilion at JCK Las Vegas for the
15th consecutive year. Every year top gem and
jewellery manufacturers from India come up with
new, exquisite jewellery collections made for
the US market. The India Pavilion comprised 63
booths, strategically positioned at the Diamond
Plaza and the Passport Location.

Pramod Agrawal, chairman, GJEPC, said, “USA
has been an important market for the Indian gem
and jewellery industry. India’s exports to USA
accounted for a staggering $8.91 billion during

  1. In fact, around 16% of the gem and jewellery

requirement by USA is imported from India. JCK
Las Vegas is a significant platform for India to
further strengthen its network and improve its
exports to the USA. It is also an opportunity for
Indian exporters to understand the trends in the
market which helps them to come back every year
with a wide variety of products for the buyers here.
With top manufacturers participating at the India
Pavilion, I am sure buyers will get to see products of
the highest quality including loose diamonds, loose
coloured gemstones, plain gold jewellery as well as
diamond and coloured stone studded jewellery.”

India today is undeniably the centre of the gem
and jewellery trade with total exports of $42
billion recorded for the period January-December

  1. Out of the total exports, cut and polished
diamond exports accounted for $23,096.45 million,
gold jewellery $8,683.42 million, and coloured
gemstones recorded exports worth $421.74 million.

Keeping in mind the strategic interests of Indian
gem and jewellery products in the US, last year
the GJEPC also organised the 7th edition of India
Diamond Week in association with New York’s
Diamond Dealers Club (DDC). The main purpose of
the four-day event was to create an annual trading
platform for Indian diamantaires in the US to fortify
their business relationships with leading American
diamond traders.

The Department of International Trade
Promotion (DITP), which promotes gems and
jewellery export from Thailand, organised a road
show in JCK Las Vegas to introduce the 62nd
Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair that will take
place from September 7th-11th, 2018. Some
50 Thai companies and brands took part in the
promotional campaign to display their gems
and jewellery products. Some of the companies
that had been invited to join the road show were
Thai Silp, V&P Jewellery, Vatana Gems, Craft Art,
Pranda Jewelry, Ariha and Nida Factory.

Kwanapa Phivnil, executive director of Thai
Trade Center, Los Angeles revealed that the
overall economy in US has been exhibiting signs
of improvement since 2017 with continued
growth. The Thai Trade Center in Los Angeles
is highlighting three Thai product groups
that have strong demand in the US: Food,
Fashion including clothing and jewellery, and
Entertainment and Film.

“The overseas office is focusing on gems and
jewellery products which is one of the fashion

product categories that play a huge part in
exports from Thailand. The US market imports
$59 billion-worth of jewellery annually, with
Thailand accounting for $1,288 million, or only
2.2% of the total figure. On the other hand,
Thailand is the country with the 13th highest
imports of gems and jewellery products from
the US,” Phivnil added.
