US OPEN LIVE from
Tuesday August 27 at
1am on ESPN [508]
The world’s best players
converge on Flushing Meadows in
New York for the fourth and final
Grand Slam of 2019. This
tournament always
delivers a fantastic
atmosphere,
particularly when
there’s a full
house at Arthur
Ashe Stadium
during the
night sessions.
World number one
Novak Djokovic returns as
men’s singles champion and will
be incredibly hard to stop on the
fast hardcourts. However, with the
US Open played in the back half
of a long season, the door is open
for a rising star to make a huge
statement, as has been the case
in recent years. As the youngest
player ranked in the ATP top 10,
Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas (pictured)
has enjoyed a massive 2019 and
is a big chance to go deep in the
tournament, possibly for his maiden
Grand Slam title. Popular Aussie
Alex de Minaur is also suited to the
speedy surface and is aiming to
reach the second week of action.
Eight-time US Open champion
Serena Williams is the local favourite
in the women’s singles, but Aussie
Ashleigh Barty is well placed
following her major tournament
breakthrough at Roland Garros.
