Among the dozens of delighted kids tum-
bling down an inflatable slide at a coun-
try fair near Bucklebury on July 13: the
future King of England Prince George
and his sister Princess Charlotte. The
royal siblings, who were watched over by
their grandparents Carole and Michael
Middleton, “dashed around the tradi-
tional stalls exactly like all the other
children,” says a villager. And the out-
going little boy who is third in line to the
throne—behind his dad, Prince William,
and grandpa Prince Charles, proved
himself a good shot with a rubber ball.
“George did pretty well at the crock-
ery-smash stall [aiming at pieces of pot-
tery],” says the villager. “He looked very
pleased with himself.”
The relaxed outing was just one of
many summer highlights for George, who
turned 6 on July 22. In the weeks lead-
ing up to his birthday he enjoyed private
tennis lessons with champ Roger Federer;
polo fun with Charlotte, 4, little brother
Louis, 1, and new cousin Archie; and a
family getaway in late July to the Caribbe-
an island of Mustique. When he’s home at
Kensington Palace, he spends much of his
time outside in the garden with his mom,
Princess Kate—or riding a scooter while
wearing a helmet with the U.K.’s Union
Jack flag. In September he’ll return to
Thomas’s Battersea school in London—
this time with sister Charlotte in tow.
“He’s a jolly little person and inquisitive,”
says a family friend—who uses an English
expression to describe his personality as
lively: “He’s full of beans.”¥
