Mini Monster Trucks return

Queen and U2 tribute acts to headline Convoy in the Park

Ever wondered
what it’s like to
drive a monster
truck? Well, you
can have the
opportunity to find
out – sort of – at
Convoy in the Park
at Donington Park
on 10/11 August.
Drivers can
pilot pocket-sized
replicas of well-
known monster
trucks including
Big Pete, The Grim
Reaper, Swamp
Thing, Podzilla and
Slingshot. It claims
to be the only
attraction of its
kind in Europe.
These petrol-
engined mini trucks are driven around a
designated course, each driver getting
about five minutes behind the wheel. It
makes for great entertainment for all ages
and was a popular attraction at Convoy in the
Park last year.
Of course, safety is paramount with
the Mini Monster Trucks. Their speed is
restricted, and full safety equipment is

provided, such as safety helmets, seatbelts
and remote-control kill switches.
Height restrictions apply (the minimum
height is 44 inches). Children below this
minimum height must be driven by an adult.
Note also that prices apply.

stand-up comedy – and to book tickets, go to

Two of the UK’s premier music tribute
acts will be rocking Convoy in the Park
on on a hot summer night at Donington.
First up, on Saturday night Queen
tribute Freddie and the Mercurys
will be playing. Led by ‘Freddie’
Gary Goodmaze, he and his band the
Mercurys bring singalong anthems like
Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock
Yo u back to life. Gary has developed his
act to incorporate stage work, dancing,
costumes and mannerisms to create
an uncanny tribute to the late Queen
frontman. He has toured locally and

internationally, with appearances in the
Middle East, America and Europe, and is
now one of the most in demand Freddie
Mercury tribute acts around.
Freddie and the Mercurys are
guaranteed to get everyone up and
singing along to all the classic hits from
the back catalogue of one of the world’s
greatest ever rock bands.
On Sunday, U2 tribute act U2 2, who
claim to be the world’s longest running
tribute to U2, will headline. These
lookalike soundalikes have been touring
for 27 years, performing more than 2000

concerts across three continents. The
band have even performed alongside U2
themselves, been praised by Bono and
are often mistaken for the real thing!
U2 2 have performed in football
stadiums, headlined festivals, been
featured on national TV and hired as
lookalikes during U2’s 360 tour.
Aaron Govern, U2 staff member, wrote
about them: “I’ve seen them a few times.
They’re the best... quite stunning, as ever.”
There will be other music acts playing
over the two days of Convoy in the Park,
with details to be announced soon.

Are you

up for the

Scalextric

Challenge?

If you fancy yourself as a racing
driver, but have never got to go
out on track, you can now test
your skills in miniature with the
Scalextric Challenge over the
Convoy in the Park weekend.
The aim of the challenge is
simple: be the fastest driver
of the day. You can choose
your car and race it around
the purpose-built four-lane
Scalextric track.
While the basics of driving
a Scalextric car are simple,
mastering it is not. Too slow
and you get overtaken, too fast
and you’ll find yourself upside-
down and off the course! Only
those who find the limit will be
in with a chance!
Drivers can have as many
races as they like to find the
car that suits their style and
work their way up the leader
board. The fastest driver of the
day will receive a prize.
