he much-anticipated replacement for the
Iveco Stralis was unveiled to the world at a
huge event in Madrid on 2 July. More than
1000 people were there to see the Italian
manufacturer pull the wraps off the new S-Way. We
were there to get a look at the new truck and to
grab a quick drive in both an LNG-powered 460
and a range-topping 13-litre 570hp diesel.
The S-Way is completely different externally, with
a redesigned roof pod, multi-piece front bumper,
all-in-one lamp units and aerodynamic panels.
Inside, the cab is bigger than the Stralis; its
interior height is 2150mm and there’s a minimal
engine hump. The all-new driver’s seat is mounted
60mm lower, there’s a new bunk, and the top
lockers are much bigger. Dash-wise, it’s very
similar to the Stralis – simple and logical but not
exactly cutting-edge. There’s a proper headlight
switch and DAB radio is now available too.
To drive, the S-Way steers and handles well, the
LNG 460 really is a viable option for many fleets
and the 570 diesel offers some serious grunt. It’s
interesting to note how lively and high-revving it is
compared with some rivals. The S-Way has the
potential to be a really satisfying driver’s truck.
