DAF PURE EXCELLENCE

British Commercial Vehicle

Museum’s £2.4 million refurb

H

is Royal Highness The Duke of
Kent has visited the British
Commercial Vehicle Museum at
Leyland to see the results of the
recent £2.4 million transformation,
and to hear all about the inspirational work
of the Leyland Veterans’ Café. The Duke
was met by museum trustees and staff as
well as local officials.
His Royal Highness toured the
museum, inspecting a number of the
heritage vehicles and some of the latest
hybrid and electric technology.
The British Commercial Vehicle
Museum was recently completely
transformed thanks to a £2.4 million
refurbishment made possible by a
£1.8 million grant from the National
Lottery Heritage Fund.
The major works programme,
completed in January 2019, has helped to
secure the future of the Leyland,

Lancashire-based museum, which means
that the important story of Britain’s rich
commercial vehicle heritage will be told for
generations to come.
Keith Moyes, manager of the British
Commercial Vehicle Museum, says: “We
are honoured to have welcomed His Royal
Highness to the museum today.
“He showed great interest in the work of
the museum, our volunteers and the many
exhibits we have on display. We hope
enthusiasts and families will follow in the
Duke’s footsteps and enjoy a day out at
the British Commercial Vehicle Museum.”
Truck & Driver were able to tour the
museum and found some proper
interesting kit there, which will prove
popular for both adults and children
(including a new lorry driving simulator).
Our favourite exhibit at the Leyland
museum is the last-ever Foden produced,
an 8x4 Alpha (pictured right).
