QUICKLY
KEVIN, WILL
HE SCORE?

Okay, so this is a football
podcast, which might put
plenty of you off right away.
But it’s not a podcast that
discusses results from one
week to the next. Quickly Kevin
is devoted entirely to football
and culture from the 1990s.
The team, consisting of
comedian Josh Widdecombe,
Chris Scull and Michael
Marden, have interviewed a
series of personalities from the
era including Matt Le Tissier,

Paul Merson and Stuart
Pearce – and if you’re into
football then you’ll find these
episodes very entertaining.
If you don’t like football
there’s still something here for
you as the team also review
various TV programmes and
books from the ’90s, and many
of these episodes are hilarious

  • in particular, the reviews of
    two of football manager Steve
    Bruce’s detective novels (yes,
    really) called Striker and
    Sweeper. You’ll laugh your
    head off at those episodes,
even if football isn’t your thing.
The podcast is available on all
    the main sources, iTunes,
    Podbean, Acast and so on.

TROTTER TRIVIA
This isn’t a new release but, as we were writing up this month’s Only
Fools and Horses-themed Editor’s Choice, we felt the need to do a
little background research. This book contains interviews with all the
main members of the cast, fascinating background information on how
the show began, how it nearly got cancelled and extensive episode
guides and trivia. Younger readers maybe won’t remember just how
big this show was in the ’80s and ’90s when it seemed like the entire
nation tuned in to watch the Christmas specials.
The behind-the-scenes anecdotes will get you smiling, as will
reliving the many famous scenes. Best of all, the book costs only
£1.40 on Kindle as opposed to £9.99 in print. Dougie Rankine

THE DIE IS CAST
Model trucks are one thing, but how many of you still
have a cardboard box stashed away full of scuffed and
chipped die-cast toy vehicles? And wish you’d kept the
boxes they came in?! Maybe you’ve handed them
down to your children. Many of us started our journey
to driving the real thing by playing with Corgi and
Matchbox toys. Older readers perhaps had Dinky
toys – they had fabulous rubber tyres!
This book, by Paul Brent Adams, makes for a
fascinating read. It’s packed with nostalgia and also
information detailing the history of the many
different types of model and manufacturer.
As we turned the pages, on more than one
occasion we were exclaiming “I had one of those!”
and subsequently deciding to devote some time to
hunting out those old Matchbox Convoy-series
trucks. Dougie Rankine
