bumper. As for the
interior, the seats have
been retrimmed in
leather, as has the bottom of the
top bunk. Unique padded leather
floormats give a lovely feeling
underfoot, while a mural on the
back of the cab wall is dedicated
to Kenneth’s grandfather, Ned
Ledwith. “My grandfather had a
small quarry in Dring and was
one of the first in Longford to
own a truck,” says Kenneth.
“His first one was a Commer;
no tipping body, just a shovel on
and off job!”
Wide variety
The Ledwith name is well known
for trucks, especially around the
Midlands region of Ireland, a
wide variety of makes having
carried the family name
throughout the years. “We’ve
always had lorries around home.
I started off driving for my father
at the wheel of a Scania 143,
registration 92-DL-80, drawing
stone with a tipping trailer.
“In 1999, both myself and my
brother Damien got new 144 460
4x2 flat cabs, for drawing ballast
used in railway construction out
of Johnny Owens’ pit in
Knockdrin, near Mullingar.”
