August 2019 Truck & Driver
T
he first weekend in June
is the time for Foxfest,
held at Foxhall Stadium,
just outside Ipswich. The
event has a very laid back
atmosphere, the main intention
being to raise money for a local
charity. This year I was fortunate
enough to be home to attend, so
I arranged to travel to Kent to
collect my good friend Richard
Warren’s classic Volvo F16 to
take to the show.
Laid back or not, you’ll still find
a serious amount of polishing
being done by just about everyone.
On Saturday night the trucks give
a light show, which is judged,
followed by the main event on the
Sunday. A small car show is held
outside where you arrive, with
several classic Vauxhalls and

dealing with what
could be one of many
summer mud-baths

Fords in attendance. The show is
well worth a visit if you are in the
East Anglia region; make a note in
your diary for next year!
Once Foxfest was over and I
had a couple of days off, it was
time to hit the road again for
Trans Am Trucking. Nothing too
strenuous to start with. A nice
leisurely day’s drive up to
Holyhead for the ferry, the
following day heading for Slane
Castle, County Meath, Ireland.
After the mud bath that was, it
was time to ship back across,
hot-foot it to Harwich and head
straight to Amsterdam.
Another couple of short drives
took us to Köln [Cologne,
Germany], Brussels, then
double-manning back to the UK
to do Manchester and
Twickenham before heading back
home again for another break.
Time off in the summer is
quite a rarity but, as a motorbike
lover, I am happy to be at home
to enjoy at least the promise of
reasonable weather...
