Norway is leading the charge of the world’s greenest cities.
According to National Geographic, 97% of the country’s
energy currently comes from hydropower, and its government
is pushing its population to fulfil the last 3%.
Most Norwegian homes are installed with smart meters,
which allow them to harvest and store solar energy;
homeowners can sell excess energy to energy companies for
a little extra income. There are currently 200,000 pure electric
vehicles on the roads. Tax breaks have made EVs appealing,
resulting in a 40% increase in their uptake last year. The
government has the ambitious plan that all newly registered
vehicles will be a zero-emission one in six years’ time.
