NO-DEAL BREXIT “DISASTER”
With Theresa May announcing her resignation as British Prime
Minister, several candidates jockeying for her job have voiced a
willingness to see the UK leave the EU without any formal agreement
(referred to as a ‘no-deal’ Brexit). That’s led Make UK, one of the
country’s largest manufacturing groups, to slam a no-deal Brexit
as “economic lunacy”.
The group, which represents tens of thousands of British
manufacturing workers, disputed claims that a complete separation
from the EU would benefit the economy. “Investment by the
[manufacturing] sector has been paralysed with no evidence that
there is pent up demand waiting to be unleashed,” said the group,
with Tom Lawton, BDO, adding that manufacturers are “not confident
of a future worth investing in”.
“Stockpiling is dying down, export orders continue to fall away
[and] global competition keeps on increasing. Combine that with
a government mired in chaos and we’re now starting to see a true
reflection of the crippling anxieties the sector is facing.”

US$3.1 BILLION: EARNINGS FOR UBER IN Q1 2019. WHILE THE RIDESHARE
COMPANY ALSO REPORTED A NET LOSS OF MORE THAN US$1 BILLION, OTHER
FIGURES, SUCH AS 89% GROWTH IN REVENUE FOR UBER EATS, INDICATE THE
COMPANY HAS MULTIPLE AVENUES FOR EXPANSION GOING FORWARD.
