SALALAH TOURISM FESTIVAL
T
he Khareef season,
Oman’s annual tourist
season, which began on
June 21, 2019 and will
continue until September
21, 2019, will invite a huge influx
of tourists from within and outside
Oman to the southern governorate
of Dhofar. Famous for its seasonal
weather, locally known as monsoon
or “khareef, its rolling gentle hills,
lush wadis and splendid waterfalls,
the governorate lures thousands
of visitors during the season. The
region is also famous for the Salalah
Tourism Festival that takes place
from July 15 to August 31 every year.
According to the survey of visitors
during the khareef season in 2018,
conducted by the National Centre
for Statistics and Information (NCSI)
in cooperation with the Ministry of
Tourism (MoT) and the ROP, in 2018
the governorate saw 826,376 visitors,
an increase of 28.1 per cent as
compared to 644,931 in 2017 during
the season.
