Latheef, Dr V T Vinod and Dr P A Mohammed, about the unique features of
the new hospital and the group’s expansion strategy in the region
When is your new Salalah hospital
expected to open?
Badr Al Samaa’s upgraded facility in
Salalah is ready as per the Ministry of
Health (MoH)’s guidelines. The MoH
inspection is scheduled for the first week of
July and we are confident that all depart-
ments and facilities will be cleared by MoH
at the first go. Once the approval is ob-
tained, we are all set to start the operations.
What is unique about this facility?
We have all major specialities such as
Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Neurology,
Urology, Nephrology, Internal Medicine,
Dermatology, Gastroenterology,
Gynaecology & Paediatrics, Dental,
Emergency Medicine, etc. with diagnostic
facilities ranging from advanced radiology
and pathology including CT Scan, MRI,
Cardiac Diagnosis, etc. In addition,
the centre boasts of Modular Operation
Theatres with Hepa Filters, fully equipped
Critical Care Units (ICUs), Neonatal ICUs,
Modern OPDs, Fully Backed Emergency
Department etc. We have a strong back-
up of ambulances to transport patients
from peripheral areas.
How important is this project for
Badr Al Samaa?
The expansion of Badr Al Samaa
Hospital, Salalah is strategic, considering
the huge demand for private healthcare
facilities in Dhofar Governorate. The ever
increasing investment and business
opportunities in the region have triggered
the need for larger and advanced
healthcare facilities. We at Badr Al Samaa
Group follow the motto of triple A’s –
Affordability, Accessibility and Availability
of quality healthcare services. This project
is a crucial step in that direction.
In future, we are looking forward to setting
Badr Al Samaa Hospital, Salalah was awarded the ‘Best Hospital in Oman’ accolade by the Ministry of Health.
Managing Directors of the hospital received the award from Dr Mazin Al Khabouri, DG- PHE at the Ministry, in a
glittering award ceremony in Muscat on July 1, 2019
up some top-of-the-line medical centres
and polyclinics in the near future based
on hub-and-spoke model.
Please talk about the expansion
strategy of Badr Al Samaa Group in
Oman and the GCC region?
Driven by our philosophy of triple A’s, we
wish to reach out to more people with our
quality healthcare services, by setting up
more state-of-the-art healthcare facilities.
Our immediate addition after Salalah will
be a medical centre in Suwaiq, which is
up for a grand inauguration. In addition,
our advanced and state-of-the-art
medical centre in Doha, Qatar, which is
operational after a soft launch, will be
officially launched soon, equipped with
additional specialties and facilities.
We are also coming up with a major
hospital in Sohar by the end of this year.
Moreover, we are launching a medical
centre in Mabella in three months’ time
and another one in Al Amarat
by the end of 2019. A lot of other projects
are on the final stage of consideration
and constructions will start soon.
What is your future outlook for the
health sector in Oman?
Oman is a growing economy and
prospects are bright for the Sultanate’s
healthcare sector which has huge potential
for investment especially in the private
sector. The sector is well regulated by
MoH’s guidelines as well as quality
indicators and strong parameters. Many
quality accreditations like JCI and PSFHI,
which we have already received, are in
place. MoH is also introducing its own
quality accreditation programme which
will gradually become compulsory for all
healthcare establishments here. This is a
strategic step to ensure the best quality
healthcare services are delivered. MoH is
also working on PPP model for many of its
core and allied services, which have given
the incentive for private healthcare players
to contribute to the sector significantly.
