See vellum in a new light with
eye-catching floral designs using
Distress Crayons, embossing powders

Vellum
radiance
T
he delicate nature of vellum
has meant it has long been a
popular material for
papercrafting and cardmaking. The
translucent paper can be used to
create see-through windows, soften
bright inks and can be torn to create
a charming distressed finish.
As vellum is so delicate, it requires
a little extra care when crafting with
it. Trim your panels with a sharp
guillotine to avoid creasing the
edges, and cut the panels before
stamping on them to prevent
damaging the surface. If you’re new
to crafting with vellum, practise
stamping and inking on a scrap
of vellum first, to get used to the
surface of the paper.
Vellum comes in a variety of
weights and colours to suit your
chosen look. Here, Jules has opted
for a heavyweight vellum, which has
less translucence and is sturdier,
making it perfect for stamping on,
cutting into panels and heat
embossing. To colour the flowers,
Jules has used Distress Crayons from
Tim Holtz, which can be gently
applied to the vellum with a
pompom to blend the colour. She
has then paired the vellum panels
with copper embossing powder and
mirror card to give the stamped
spring flowers maximum impact.Shopping list
