Crossing the fi nish line of the fi nal stage of the
50th anniversary La Solitaire URGO Le Figaro in
fourth place, after a 500-mile leg from Rosco˜
to Dieppe via Wolf Rock and Owers, was enough
to give Yoann Richomme his second victory in the
classic challenge.
Second-placed Gilda Mahé was beaten by just
one hour and 13 minutes after a total of 14 days,
2 hours and 20 minutes of racing.
Eric Peron’s French Touch won the fi nal stage,
but all eyes were on Richomme as he crossed the
line o˜ Dieppe, and left the helm of his HelloWork-
Groupe Telegramme Figaro Beneteau 3, to punch
the air with delight.
Drenched in champagne on the dock, the now
two-times La Solitaire winner
smiled and said: “I am really
moved. I’m lost for words. I never
thought I’d win two.
“It was long and tiring and I
almost took the lead on the last
night but fell asleep. For a couple
hours I was 30 degrees o˜
course.
“This was a really tough event,
which is what it should be.”

Richomme, who won last year’s highly
competitive Route du Rhum-Destination
Guadeloupe in Class40, is the fi rst skipper to win
the multi-stage event racing in the new foil-assisted
Figaro Beneteau 3.
Up against a competitive fl eet on one of the
longest and most open, varied and challenging
courses in the event’s history, Richomme’s victory
makes him the eighth member of an exclusive club
of solo racers who have won La Solitaire twice. Only
fi ve skippers have now won the uno¥ cial world
championship of solo o˜ shore racing more times
than him: Yann Eliès, Jérémie Beyou, Jean Le Cam,
Michel Desjoyeaux and Philippe Poupon.
Coming in as a late replacement for Charles
Caudrelier, the Volvo Ocean Race
winning skipper and 2004 La Solitaire
winner who was due to race the boat,
Richomme was under little pressure
to deliver a result.
After winning in 2016, he had
moved out of the Figaro Beneteau 2
to pursue other projects including his
aim to compete in the Vendée Globe
and advising on the development of
the new Beneteau 3.

The fi nal day of the Yanmar Dragon Gold Cup 2019
was frustrating as the wind refused to stabilise
su¥ ciently to complete a race.
Pedro Andrade (pictured right in the photo
below), Star class veteran Christian Giannini (centre)
and Joao Vidinha (left) sailing for Portugal were
therefore confi rmed as worthy and very popular
Yanmar Dragon Gold Cup 2019 champions. They’d
battled several major gear failures during the week,
including a broken
gooseneck, ripped
spinnaker, failed bilge
pumps and a broken
runner, but in spite
of that, they won the
regatta by a
convincing 10 points.
