play against and with people who disliked
them. Even walking on the court was a
challenge, let alone playing great on it.
Finally, as a Massachusetts resident,
it gives me added appreciation that the
Celtics first broke the NBA color barrier
by drafting Chuck Cooper in 1950. I truly
hope Mr. Cooper will be inducted [into the
Hall of Fame] soon and join his historic
brethren Earl Lloyd and Nat Clifton.

I just read “Leader of the New School” and found

it inspiring. Kobe and I had the same goal in writing.

Hope all your readers are inspired, too. Great article.

what it is. But LeBron is King and making
his own way. 3peat Lakers on the way.

I barely understood this letter but I love the
passion. And Raymond Ray is an amazing
name.—Ed.

Last night I watched Carsen Edwards drop
42 in an Elite 8 loss vs UVA. I think Ed-
wards is a very underrated player because
he’s had an amazing college career—es-
pecially in this year’s regular season and
tournament—but gets overlooked because
of big names like Zion, RJ and Ja. I think
it’d be very cool to see an article about
him and his career at Purdue/this year’s
tournament run, especially since he
matched or broke a lot of Curry’s NCAA
tournament records. Maybe you could
even make him a cover athlete.

Cover is a bit of a stretch, but we got you
on an article pretty soon. He deserves
it.—Ed.

What it do SLAM?!? I’ve been watching
Ja Morant since December, and I can
unequivocally say there has never been
a mid-major player of his caliber. He’s a
BEAST. He’s perpetually in his bag with all
the tools to choose from. My grandma is a
Murray State Racer and I know she has a
big grin watching them play. Put Ja on the
cover. Slam Fam yearns for it. #JaJams

What’s up SLAM! Wanted to say congrats
on 25 years. I got distracted and stopped
reading when I started college a few
years ago...but I was so hype when
my childhood homie D-Book made the
Hustler’s Ambition cover on 213. I been
back reading ever since. Book and I used
to have sleepovers playing 2K (I had the
upper hand) and he would work me in
1v1 on the mini-hoop (he played from his
knees). Now that dude is on the cover of
a SLAM mag! I’m excited to see what the
next 25 years brings...and hoping for a few
more Book articles!

How’s a poster sound?—Ed.

I appreciate SLAM’s 2019 Black History
Month articles. It was amazing to see how
different the League was back in the early
1950s. I would have never guessed that
the NBA would be what it is today.
As a 13-year-old, another fact that blew
my mind was the numbers these players
put up under immense pressure. Not only
were they rookies, but they also had to
