T
he scoresheet used to record Wilt Chamberlain’s
100-point game in 1962 sold for $214,579 in
SCP Auctions’ Spring Premier Auction 2019 that
closed April 27.
e scoresheet is a piece of history as it recorded the NBA’s
greatest single scoring game that occurred March 2, 1962.
e sheet attracted 22 bids.
From SCP Auctions: “Fresh to the hobby and newly discov-
ered comes the actual home team’s offi cial score sheet from
Wilt’s epic 100-point performance. e offi cial scorer that
evening for the Warriors was team statistician Toby DeLuca,
who scored the game for Philly’s play-by-play announcer on
WCAU radio, Bill Campbell. Not only did Wilt e Stilt set
the single-game scoring record (Kobe’s 81 remains a distant
2nd), but the teams combined for what was, at the time, the
highest scoring game in NBA history, with the Warriors
beating the Knickerbockers, 169-147. e end result on paper
was this busy, convoluted score sheet in multiple colors with
Chamberlain’s endless row of points overfl owing into team-
mate Guy Rodgers’ line below. is is the very score sheet
precisely documented in best-selling author Gary Pomerantz’s
critically acclaimed book Wilt, 1962 on page 116 – right down
to DeLuca’s switch to red pencil to diff erentiate from Wilt’s
point totals in the 2nd half. Presumably that same night,
Chamberlain blessed the important document with his very
own signature and “Best Wishes” inscription in blue ballpoint
pen. According to PSA/DNA analysis, the era-appropriate,
early ‘60s autograph is done in what appears to be the same
blue ballpoint pen used to tally each team’s 3rd and 4th quar-
ter scoring totals on the sheet.”
