1 Start
Duke of Edinburgh
Inn bus stop, N end of
Newgale beach
GR: SM847222
Climb up and over shingle bank
and turn L along beach (the lower
the tide, the more sand there is
and the easier the walking). Route
couldn’t be simpler: just keep sea
on R all the way following National
Trail (Pembrokeshire Coast
Path) waymarks! Leave beach
after about 1.3km – lifeguards
on duty here in the summer, car
park/public toilets across road.
Continue along lane, soon forking
R at a fingerpost to follow clifftop
path. Route passes a disused
colliery on its way to Rickets Head,
thereafter turning inland and
downhill to Nolton Haven.

Carry on up lane to a fork,
bear R and immediately R
again by church to continue on
Coast Path. Further on, steps

LONG DAYS call for long
walks, and in my case, as
a sucker for sunsets, that
means late finishes. With
sunset on the Pembrokeshire
coast at about 9.45pm in
the latter part of June and
the sometimes exquisite
twilight lasting for up to
an hour thereafter, it’s not
the time for early starts. So
I had a leisurely morning,
then caught the bus from
Marloes, where I was
based, north up the coast
to Newgale.
Pembrokeshire’s coastal
bus services – with user-
friendly names like the
Poppit Rocket and Puffin
Shuttle – are a great boon
for walkers, all thanks to the
council, who subsidise

descend to cross valley at
Druidston Haven, then it’s back
uphill the other side to join a lane
for a short distance, passing
Druidstone Hotel on R. Continue
on clifftop path to Broad Haven.

3

At low tide you can walk
along beach from here to
Little Haven, but otherwise it’s up
and down road (a quiet lane).

4

Next stretch as far as
Mill Haven is along high
vegetated cliffs. After a section
through woodland you reach
Borough Head (helpfully named
with grid reference on a post by a
kissing gate). Beyond Mill Haven
easier walking along low red
sandstone cliffs to St Brides Haven.

5

Continue along low grassy
cliff tops, cutting across
neck of Nab Head, then heading
S to Musselwick Sands. At path
junction just after Black Cliff turn
inland to road and L to Marloes.

6 Finish
Marloes bus stop
opposite Lobster Pot Inn,
roadside parking nearby
