The Great Outdoors – August 2019

(Barry) #1

  1. MONT BLANC, FRANCE

The iconic highest peak in the Alps is a
favourite for snowy climbing year-round.
The clue is definitely in the name here...!
If you’re not looking to complete the two-
day foray it takes on average to get to the
summit and back, there’s skiing on the slopes
(usually until early summer) and a cable car
between Courmayeur and Chamonix where
you can take in the spectacular views.

  1. MOUNT SAINT ELIAS,
    CANADA
Sitting on the Canadian-Alaskan border, peak
climbing months are June, July and August.
With the average time needed being around
three weeks, plus extreme weather combined
with steep slopes, it’s considered one of
the most difficult ascents in North America.
There are local tour operators that can see
you through the whole trip – or a one-day
experience for those just looking for a taster.
