Chris Townsend’s online review
of the Saxx Quest 2.0 Boxer
Briefs proved popular:Mike
Rowbottom: “I’ve got a few pairs.
They are excellent. They do what
they’re supposed to do.” Teresa
Coles McGee: “Not entirely sure
why they need to be camouflage
though...” Pam Ellen Wallace:
“Goodness, that’s cheered my
evening up!”
Chiara Bullen’s digital feature on
menstruation in the mountains

  • and the fact that used sanitary
    products are often found as

litter – prompted plenty of
debate too:Sue Waton:“I’ve
walked in wild and remote places
for years and never once left any
used sanitary products behind.
It’s been awkward, messy and
uncomfortable dealing with them,
but leave them lying around? No!
If you’re backpacking and have a
trowel you can bury them but likely
as not they’ll be dug up by wildlife.
Take ‘em back with you.” Debbie
Hibberd:“Put it in a bag and
take it home. Just like your used
toilet paper.”

I thought the ‘View
from Here’ series was
supposed to be just
that. The one on page
14 of the July 2019
issue is labelled as the
view from Beinn Eighe,
but the photograph
is actually of the view
from the summit of
Spidean a’ Choire Leith
on Liathach – which of
course does give a good
view of Beinn Eighe
but can’t be described
as from it! Maybe it was
meant to be a ‘View
from here – Liathach’?
Apart from that,
another excellent issue.

TGO: You’re quite correct,
Ian – well spotted, and
apologies for the
incorrect labelling.

Bolly on Dale Head
I thought I would share with
you a photo of my walking
partner, Bolly, looking to see

what’s coming next after
Dale Head.

Sterling service
from Tilley
I thought readers may be
interested to hear about the
remarkable service provided
by Tilley hats. I bought my
much-worn hat at least 15
years ago, and it was becoming
rather frayed around the edges.
Never mind, time to buy a
new one I thought – until
my partner pointed out that
these hats are guaranteed for
life, and suggested that I should
return my old hat in the hope
of getting a replacement.
The following day I received a
phone call from Tilley enquiring
about head size. Two days later
a brand new hat arrived. In
today’s throwaway society, this
is a wonderful service and I
am grateful to the company for
honouring their commitments
in this way. As I’m approaching
76 years, I doubt whether I’ll be
needing another replacement;
but who knows?
