SHAP FELLS aren’t popular,
having a reputation for
being featureless and boggy.
Boggy they can be; although
I walked this route at the end
of a wet and stormy March,
on the Monday following
a Friday of torrential
rain – and with a breeze
blowing it wasn’t all that
wet. There’s usually a track
circumventing the worst
bits. As for features, I saw
miles of empty country in
shadow and sun, a glittering
stream far below, a dozen
red deer, snipe, lapwing, a
lizard – and any number
of never-ending views.

Horseshoe. The Outlying

Through gate follow fence R

in wall. Through gate SE

House Bank.
