BECKETT FOOTBALL 9
MARQUISE BROWN,
WR, RAVENS
Did you realize making football
cards was such a big business and
the Rookie Premiere was such a big
organized event?
“I didn’t know what to expect. I had
always seen it on TV, but I didn’t know
what all went on behind the scenes. It’s
pretty cool.”
How does it feel to put on the full
Ravens uniform for the fi rst time?
“It feels good. It fi ts better than I
thought it would.”
What’s it like knowing fans all over
the country will be getting your cards
out of packs this year?
“It’s crazy to think when I was a kid I
used to get cards and keep up with all the
players. Now it’s pretty cool to have my
own card. Little kids now ask me for my
cards, so that’s pretty cool. I know how
much it meant to me when I was small.”
You’re surrounded by Heisman-
winning quarterbacks in college and
now in the NFL with Lamar Jackson.
“I’m just blessed. But all I’m saying is
that Baker [Mayfi eld] was in the Heisman
race two years in a row, and when I came,
he won it. Kyler... he won it. Now we also
have Mark Ingram and RGIII. We have the
Heismans! I tell Baker that he didn’t win it
until I came.”
What will you miss most about
college football?
“I’ll just miss my teammates, and being out there in Norman
on Saturdays. Just the whole experience of Friday and Saturday.
I’ll miss it all, but I’m looking forward to creating new memories
in Baltimore.”
What advice have you received about making the tran-
sition into the NFL?
“It’s fortunate for me. I have Orlando Brown and Mark An-
drews who were on my team and now they are in Baltimore. Th ey
just tell me to get in and work. Football is football, so just to make
sure you take care of yourself.”
What do you like most about football?
“Th e excitement of it. I like the crowd and the noise, the big
plays and big hits. I love the atmosphere of football.”
What is your Madden speed rating?
“My Madden speed is 97. Th at’s doable right there. I can live
with that.”
What all-time player would you most want to be on a
football card with?
“Deion Sanders. Primetime.”
What rookie would you choose to build a Rookie
Card collection of?
“Kyler Murray. What he did had never been done. He’s a
walking legend.”
What style of receiver are Ravens fans getting?
“Th ey’re getting a playmaker—someone who, at any given
time, can make a big play. Someone who’s always looking to
have fun and win games.”
Any players you’re looking forward to playing
against?
“I would say my boy Jalen Ramsey. Th rough the draft
process, he always gave me advice. He is a great corner, and I
love the way he plays the game.”
What players still at Oklahoma should collectors
watch out for the next couple years?
“Th ey’re defi nitely going to be collecting CeeDee Lamb
cards. He’s a beast. First receiver taken.”
