CUTTINGOUT
SteponeFoldthefabrictwicebringingthe
selvedgestogether so there are two folds and four
layersoffabric.
SteptwoFoldyourjumperinhalfvertically.Place
thecentrefoldagainstthefoldsofthefabric.
StepthreeUsinganerasablefabricmarkeror
tailor’schalk,markfromthetoprightcornerofthe
fabricdowntothebottomwherethelayersare
openandtherearenofolds.Usingthestepimage
toguideyou,drawa curvefromthetopright
cornertojustbelowtheunderarmpoint,andfrom
therestraightdowntothebottomofthefabric.
Makesuretomarkapprox.4cm(1⁄in)fromyour
templatejumper to allow room for movement in
thecape.^01
StepfourCutalongthemarkedcurveandline.
Nowwehavea nicecurvedlineforthe arm
opening and a side seam as well.

MAKINGTHEOPENING
SteponeMarkwheretheinnershoulderpointof
thejumperis andstartmarkingthenecklinecurve
fromthispoint.Yourmarkshouldmeetthecentre
ofthefoldandcontinuedowntothebottomin
a reverseS shapeasshowninthestepimage.^02
SteptwoCutthroughthetoplayerofthefabric
followingyourmarkings.Thenfoldthefourlayers
offabricoverandusethecutawaypiecetomark
thesamecurveontheotherside,so both sides of
the cape opening are the same.

StepthreeMarkandcutawaya smallcurveinthe
necklineoftheback of the cape between the two
openings.^03

SEWINGTHECAPE
SteponeStitchdownthetwosideseamsfromthe
bottomofthearmopeningtothebottomofthe
sideseam.If yourmaterialfrays,finishtheraw
edges before stitching them together.^04

BINDINGTHERAWEDGES
SteponeOpenthebiastapeandlayit againstthe
rawedgeonthebackofthefabric,sotheright
side(RS)ofthebiastapefacesthewrongside(WS)
ofthefabric,aligningtherawedgeofthebias
tapewiththerawedgeofthefabric.Pinthebias
tapeonallaround until you reach the point where
youbegan.
SteptwoStitchthetapeinplacealltheway
aroundfollowingthe fold of the bias tape closest
totheedge.^05
StepthreeFoldthebiastapeovertothefrontof
thecape.Fold all the way around pinning in place
asyougo.
StepfourTopstitchthebiastapeinplace.This
stitchingwillbenoticeablefromtheRSsotryto
stitchclosetotheopenedge,maintainingan
equaldistanceallaround.Followingtheguide on
yourneedleplatemayhelptosewneatly.
StepfiveRepeattobindbotharm openings and
the opening of the cape.^06
