"Therearesomanyreasonswhythisfauxleather
jacketis myfavouritepieceinmyhandmade
wardrobe,butI’lltrytonarrowit down.
I hadn’tmadea full-onpieceofclothingfor
a whilebeforeI madethis.I havesewnallmylife
andfindthatasmuchasI loveit,I dogoinand
outofthemoodforsewingcomplicated
garments.I findthatsomethingmustfulfil a real
needinmywardrobetowarrantthe
commitmentintimeandmoneytocreateit.This
jacketdefinitelyfilledthatneedforme.Being
a plus-sizegal,I findthatleatherjacketsare
usuallyill-fitting,bulky,hottowear,andoften
makeyoulooklike a leather armchair. Nobody
wantsthat!
WhenI foundthisleather-lookstretchcotton
fabric and ordered it into my shop, I instantlyknewthatI hadtomakemyselfa motostyle
jacket.Asit wascottonit wouldbebreathable,
alltheseamsandcollarswouldbelessbulky,it
wouldhavea littlestretch,andI couldmakeit fit
overmyfavouritechunkyknitjumpers.
I havemadejacketsbeforebutthisonecame
togetherlikea dream!I usedButterick 6169 as
I findit easiertoalterpatternsfromthebig
patterncompanies,andthereareveryfewindie
patterncompaniesthatmakedetailedpatterns
forplussizes.I amluckythatI grewupaltering
patternsformyself,soI wasabletotweakthis
onetoworkperfectlyformyneeds.It isnowone
ofthemostwornitemsinmywardrobe,and
I alwaysgetsuchlovelycommentsinit which
makesit evenmoredreamytowear."
