SPECIAL FEATURE: INDIA DIAMOND TRAIL
The next evening, we entered the port city of Vizag.
Our hotel, situated by the R K Beach Road offered a
panoramic view of the Bay of Bengal. The stunning
yet soothing eagle’s eye view of the sea did wonders
in easing the fatigue from the long driving hours. The
next morning, we visited the INS Kursura Submarine
Museum. Built inside the actual diesel-electric
submarine that played a key role in the 1971 Indo-Pak
war, it was decommissioned in 2001 after a little over
three decades of service in the Indian Navy.
Unlike the glorious hidden gems that we discovered
so far on the India Diamond Trail, our next stop was
nowhere near glorious. Cyclone Fani had hit Puri just
10 days before our arrival, knocking down thousands
of electricity lines and mobile phone towers, shattering
countless trees and flooding innumerable paddy
fields. And despite all this, life in Puri was limping
back to normalcy. Thanks to the advanced climate
