HE RR 310 HAS ALWAYS BEEN
A brilliant package but was in
the news for the wrong reasons
over the last 18 months; chiefly
the NVH issues and lack of lowdown grunt. To
take care of the problems, TVS invited all the
owners and retrofitted a ‘kit’ that included
several parts, but let’s talk about that later. The
2019 variant gets the kit along with a slipper
clutch as well as a new Phantom Black theme
and that’s about it. TVS invited us over to the
MMRT, Chennai to have a go and find out if the
updates are worthwhile.

What does the kit include?
The engine has not been tinkered with at all. It
still makes 33.5bhp and 27.3Nm. However, the
kit included an ECU map allowing for better
low-down grunt. The RR now sounds throatier
at idle and the earlier issue of the engine dying,
when not given enough throttle input has been

rectified too. The chain, too, gets a roller to
reduce the noise. Apart from that, to get rid of
the vibes, TVS has lent it heavier bar ends along
with a rubber sleeve to hold the instrument
cluster. The clutch action is lighter by 20 per
cent to be precise, claims TVS.

How does it reflect on the track?
The RR felt at home at the MMRT when we rode
it at the launch almost two years ago, but the
2019 edition takes the game a step ahead. The
vibes are almost zilch and can be felt only after

about 7000rpm, but nothing alarming as on the
previous iteration. You cannot really explore the
bottom-end grunt at a racetrack but the bike
felt tractable in the slower corners. It’s fairly
predictable to ride and has a lot of potential,
even as a track machine. We have lived with
it for over a year and were impressed with its
touring abilities, which were only limited by the
vibes. Of course, the slipper clutch does its job
well and there were no complaints regarding the
transmission as well, during the ride.

Buy it?
The RR always had great potential but was
limited due to its vibey nature and other minor
issues. TVS has taken the feedback to heart
and worked hard making the `2.27 lakh price
tag seem justifiable. The RR is brilliant on track
and doubles up as a tourer too, and the new
updates solve the problem of living with it on a
daily basis. Definitely worth the money! L
