HEN THE BOSS HANDS YOU KEYS
to a specific long-termer, you don’t
really have a choice, do you? After
spending a fortune on fuel for the Compass,
I have been asked to live with the petrol-
powered Renault Captur. Sirish is well aware
of the fact that I’ve always had a soft spot
for Renaults. I love their driving dynamics;
be it the Kwid, the Duster and obviously
the Captur too. A couple of trips to Mumbai
reiterated the fact. The ride and handling
setup is superb and just about perfect for our
conditions. The hydraulic steering is on the
heavier side but there’s so much feedback
that it reminds me of the muscle cars that I
used to drive around the streets of Dubai.
A few weeks ago, my Renault was hit by aE ARE A FAMILY OF FIVE. BUT SINCE
my wife is in Germany for a good
nine years, we’re down to four. This
means two things. I’ve been spending too
much time at work, but I needed a way to
make time for my family. Hence, a road trip to
the Konkan coast was planned.
The third-gen WagonR has grown
beautifully, both from the outside and inside,losing the tag of ‘Sharma ji ka beta’ in its
category. What I like the most about the
WagonR was the ease it offers the driver as
well as the passengers.
The road to Konkan isn’t great, especially
via Tamhini ghat. I was worried that I’d have
to make more stops to break the fatigue.
But surprisingly, the WagonR glided over the
rough patches easily, without passing anyDo we really need petrol
powered SUVs?The WagonR serves just right for a family of four

which meant, we had no choice but to opt
for insurance. Thankfully, only the front
bumper bore the brunt and the bonnet
was spared from any damage. The folks at
Renault managed to replace the bumper in
a couple of weeks, which speaks volumes
about the service. My only grouse is the
underpowered motor that struggles at the
low revs and when you rev it to the limiter, the
fuel efficiency goes for a toss. Which means,
my dream of having my own villa in Keralamight remain just that. A dream. Well, dowry
is still a part of the system in Kerala so that
might solve half the issues. A Captur diesel
would be a great add-on to the package, I
think, along with the house. Now, how much
does the premium pack cost on Bharat
Matrimony? L
Aslam Kabeerimpact into the cabin. From a driver’s POV,
the car offers ample visibility all around. My
parents had enough leg, head and shoulder
room. The 341-litre boot gulped our three
days’ worth of luggage with ease with some
space to spare. And despite all the weight,
the WagonR returned a mileage of 17.4kmpl.
All in all, the WagonR is spacious, practical
and fuel efficient, just the right companion I
needed for the family trip. L
