PACE FOR EVERYTHING. THAT’S
what the Triber’s tagline says. And the
compact MPV has certainly made a
big statement at its global unveil in New Delhi.
Let us begin with the way it looks. Based on
the Kwid’s CMF-A platform but modified for
the added length, the Triber will fall under the
compact MPV category as it is within the four-
metre length bracket at 3990mm. And Renault’s
design team has to be credited for the fact that
the Triber is pleasing to the eye despite the fact
that it has to accommodate the proportions
that a compact sub four-metre MPV dictates. It
doesn’t look bulky or oddly-proportioned at all
and has a distinctly European design that works
with smooth lines and a soft overall shape that
might just find favour with the families that it
seeks to target.

Powering the car is a one-litre three-cylinder
petrol engine that puts out 71bhp of power at
6250rpm and 96Nm of torque at 3500rpm. The
MPV will be available with two transmission
variants – a five-speed manual or a five-speed
R AMT (automatic) transmission similar to the
one on the Kwid.
Keeping in line with the ‘space for everything’
tagline, the feature that Renault wants to draw
attention to is the unique seating configuration
it has to offer. The car can be configured to seat
upto seven people, with aircon vents for all rows.
The company has listed four modes, namely
Life mode seat configuration that can seat five
with sliding and reclining functionality; Tribe
Mode, where it can seat seven; Surfing Mode,
where the MPV can accommodate large objects
like a cycle or surf board; and Camping Mode,

where you have the front two seats and the rest
to use as desired. Interestingly, the Triber will be
sold with the third row packed away in two bags
and placed in the huge 625-litre boot. The seats
can be installed as and when needed, and very
easily too.
The Triber is equipped with an all-digital
instrument cluster with an 8.9cm LCD that
displays speed, trip and fuel consumption data.
This LCD is framed by three virtual gauges that
make up the tachometer, fuel gauge and engine
temperature readout. Speaking of connectivity,
the Triber comes with an eight-inch multimedia
touchscreen system that supports both Android
Auto and Apple CarPlay. The MPV also comes
with a smart access card which facilitates
keyless entry and ignition.
The Triber, once launched in September, will

Renault’s sub four-metre MPV will be the most compact 7-seat MPV in India
