Mercedes-Benz is touting the off-road virtues
of the SUV and rightly so, as it gets Mercedes-
Benz’ 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and some
features like an off-road driving mode which
controls the power delivery, ABS, hill-start
assistance and animations on the driver
information display which show representations
of the gradient, angle of incline and other useful
information. The GLB also gets Mercedes-Benz’
Multibeam LED lights as an optional extra.
This, Mercedes-Benz claims, allows the driver
to better see the path or obstacles while off
tarmac at slower speeds.
The GLB also boasts of features like driving
assistance systems, lane change assist, parking
assist, active steering and partial autonomous
driving capability that adjusts the speed while
approaching roundabouts, intersections or even
street corners.
On the suspension front, the seven-seater
comes equipped with MacPherson struts up
front and an acoustically- and vibrationally-
decoupled multi-link axle with compression
springs at the rear. Adaptive adjustable damping
is available as an option. The infotainment
system, powered by MBUX (Mercedes-Benz
User Experience), comprises of a single screen
layout similar to the new A-Class.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB is expected to hit
the streets in Germany by the end of this year.
The GLB will be manufactured, as of now, at two
manufacturing facilities in Beijing, China and
New Mexico, USA. Mercedes-Benz is currently
evaluating the GLB for the Indian market, and
depending on customer demand, the brand
might decide to assemble it in India as well.
The GLB is, in our opinion, is a great SUV as far
as the Indian market is concerned, with seven
seats and a compact footprint – two features,
when combined with the three-pointed star on
the nose, immediately bump up its desirability.
There is nothing like it that you can buy today!
