Le Mans, and a whole bunch more. Ian’s career
began with Ford Design Studios and he moved
on to become chief designer of TWR Design
where the Aston Martin DB7, DB9, Vanquish took
shape. The design language he created at Aston
remained for a long time, only just evolving
with more modern cars like the Vantage. Ian
is regarded as one of the most noteworthy
individuals in automotive design and was
awarded the title of Royal Designer for Industry
from the RSA in 2005 and in 2014 he was
awarded the Minerva Medal, the highest honour
bestowed by the Chartered Society of Designers
which is awarded for an individual’s lifetime’s
achievement in design.
Ian expressed that he has accomplished
what he had set out to achieve when he first
joined Jaguar and now is the right time to move
on and explore other design projects. Julian
Thomson who is currently Creative Design
Director has been appointed to take Ian’s
position and Ian asserted that Julian (who has
worked with Ian for 18 years) is the right choice
to lead Jaguar’s design to the future. Ian also
said that he will remain a consultant to the
brand.

AMBORGHINI HAS DECIDED TO MAKE
a concept off-roader – the Sterrato in
the wake of the Urus. The car is based
on the Huracán Evo and is powered by the same
5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 that puts out
630bhp and 600Nm. The Sterrato’s four-wheel
drive, four-wheel steering, torque vectoring and
driver dynamics are controlled by the Huracán
Evo’s LDVI (Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo
Integrata) system and has been calibrated to
optimise driving off-road. And just so that you
know you are driving a Lamborghini, the LDVI
system also provides additional stability in
‘oversteering manoeuvres’.
Speaking of changes, ground clearance is up
by 47mm, while the approach and departure
angle have been enhanced. The off-roader
has been fitted with 20-inch wheels with
balloon tyres and wide-body wheel arches to
accomodate the 30mm track increase. The car
is also protected by a rear skid plate that also
acts as a diffuser, aluminium reinforcement
along the front axle and underbody
reinforcement. The Sterrato is also equipped
with an LED light bar on the roof and LED
bumper lamps. Will this car go into production?
Unlikely. Do we want it to? Who wouldn’t?
