Mini Sport Cup 2019: Round 2

Round 2 of the 2019 HRCR Mini Sport Cup, on 5 May, was the

Dixies Historic Challenge, run by Forresters Car Club. A total

of 17 Minis took on the Epynt ranges covering 45 miles over

10 stages. The rally saw a ba le for 1st and 2nd between

Clive King/Anton Bird and John Cressey/Martin Cressey.

Intercom issues during the fi rst two stages scuppered Clive

and Anton's a emps at catching up on John and Martin’s

time. When Clive and Anton gained 10 seconds in the next

two stages, it was looking like it could go either way. Clive

and Anton se led in for 2nd place until John and Martin

were forced to retire. "Of course we were delighted to get

the win but we really felt for John – he drove well," said Clive,

who took overall honours (1st in Category 1) with Anton.

"It's a 1985 Mini that was reshelled in 1997 and built by John

Adair under the Speedwell label. It has a 1293cc engine,

1¾" SU and RC40. It has Speedwell badges everywhere! We

really love the car and have had it for 13 years," said David.
