Engine of the Year awards for under

1-litre engines with the EcoBoost engine

but has had some issues, including

with overheating, which resulted in

hoses being changed during a recall.

David explains that, with two tanks

fitted, the EcoBoost’s fuel range is 600

miles. “Coming here for the photoshoot,

I was doing 70 miles an hour at 3000

revs and, when you think the donor

car’s probably pulling 50 to the gallon,

well this can easily do 50 to the gallon.

It’s got twin tanks: a 5.5-gallon and a

7.5-gallon, that’s 13 gallons so we’ve got

a range of 500 to 600 miles in a Mini.”

So the next big question involves

the cost of the conversion. “We offer a

drive-in, drive-out conversion service.

For left-hand drive it’s £12,500 and for

right-hand drive it’s £14,000 plus VAT.”

Traditional Z Cars fans can rest-

assured that the company is alive and

well and is currently building its first

new Z Cars Mini with the new, improved

tubular chassis and easy-access cradle.

We look forward to hearing more

about this but, in the meantime, this

EcoBoost conversion is certainly putting

Z Cars back on the Mini map.

MiniWorld would like to thank:
