putting a rocker cover on top of a used
skateboard. A step-by-step web page was
created with pictures and instructions on
how to build a Kids’ Class racer. It includes
a printable template for the base to bolt
the skateboard or roller skate trucks/
axles to. These rules make it possible for
a kid to actually do most of the work with
minimal adult assistance, learning a lot
and having pride in what they have built.
Kids will then race other kids who built
their own as well, so a child will definitely
win! The Kids’ Class is just an option for
children. They can choose instead to build
a Modified Class racer and race in the
faster class. The Modified class rules are
much more open and it’s for all ages.
Once we announced the Kids and
Modified classes, Moni Winter from the
Minis-Unterwegs Mini Club, adopted them
for their races. “We are so excited that the
kids finally have their own class to race
with each other,” exclaimed Moni. Titled
the German Rocker Cover Championship
There was a lot of excitement in the crowd and on the starting line during IMM/Mini 55, England, in 2009.

(GRCC), they are taking rocker cover
racing to the next level. Their races will be
held at German Mini events throughout
the year. The racers in each class will win
points at each event that go towards
the year-end championship! In addition,
one of their races this year will be at the
IMM in Bristol. Those competing in the
Modified Class at any prior GRCC event
can race at the IMM GRCC race. For the
Kids’ Class, any kid that builds a Kids’
Class racer can race in the IMM GRCC race.
These Modified and Kids racers can also
race in this year's IMM rocker cover race
that is one class for all ages. Kids, here
is your opportunity to build a racer and
race other kids in the GRCC, and also in
the IMM GRCC race. Look at the GRCC
and IMM schedules for the locations and
times. If you don’t have a racer built in
time for the GRCC or the IMM, please
still come to the races, see how much
fun it is, and be a part of the cheering
crowd. Take a lot of pictures to use for
inspiration, for the one you’ll be building!
As rocker cover racing continues to
grow, I am looking forward to the Kids’
and Modified classes becoming the
standard for many clubs and events, as
well as future IMMs. We believe the new
Kids’ Class will get more kids involved
and allow them the opportunity to build
their own racer. While the Modified Class
will allow the adults to continue their
quest for faster and faster racers. Start
your planning and building now.
