driving it. She then told me that she

wanted a Mini for herself and that I

should get her a pink Mini.” He was

thrilled to see that she was now hooked

on Minis. Some time passed and then

one day Rodrigo found a beautiful

1994 Nightfi re Red Mini Cabriolet. It

wasn’t o cially for sale but he was able

to negotiate a deal and purchase it.

The timing was perfect to have it in

Queretaro for the Mini 60, to surprise

her and their two daughters, Miranda

and Ivana. They brought their fully

restored 1961 Mini Seven, to be driven

at the event, from their hometown

in the North East of Mexico so that

everything seemed normal to Fabiola.

He then told me that the Cabriolet was

hiding under a Union Jack cover in

front of the hotel ready for the surprise.

I went outside and waited to see the

unveiling and subsequent shock and

joy which was followed by many hugs

and kisses. The crowd was just as

excited; this was a great way to start the

event and the day! As you would guess,

the three ladies drove in their new Mini

with the cabrio roof down, smiling

all day, while dad drove the Seven.

The other story came from a

beautiful picture the following day,

at a park in Queretaro, where the 140

Minis were on display. What caught

my eye was Martín Fragoso Miranda’s

Mini in front of a beautiful jacaranda

tree. The blooming purple fl owers

perfectly enhanced the Mini’s Morello

Cherry paintwork. I asked him about

the Mini and he said it was his gift

to his daughter, Mariella, on her 15th

birthday. He went on to say: “Since I

was a kid I loved the Mini from the fi rst

time I saw it. I think that I passed it on

to my daughter because she loves it

too!” Unfortunately Mariella, now 19,

wasn’t able to be at the Mexico Mini 60

as she’s studying to be a doctor in the

USA. Living near Mexico City, Martín

and the Mini are far from Mariella. He

explains: “She wants her car over there.

I’m trying to move the car or buy her

another one. I just have one daughter

and I love her so much!” It was nice to

hear this very proud father and see how

the Mini became a part of his family.

Between the few days in the

mountains and the amazing days

at the Mini 60, there are so many

stories that made this trip so special.

Watch for the full Mexico Mini 60

story in an upcoming issue!
