assistance of a co-pilot) put the Minis
through their paces with tight, winding
corners and steep inclines along the way.
A mid-morning stop, at Whaley
Bridge, saw the sun come out, and
there were smiles all round at the
run so far. The best was yet to come,
though, with a steep climb right up
into the Dales, some pretty impressive
views back over the skyline of
Manchester before descending through
Snake Pass, alongside Ladybower
Reservoir and fi nishing up at the
Derwentwater Arms in Hope Valley.

Po eries to the Peaks
I
t may only have been their second
outing but Stokes Orange Boxes’
Potteries to the Peaks ran like a
well-oiled machine on Sunday 28
April. Setting o from Burslem Cricket
Club, which kindly lent its kitchen
to the Boxes who served up bacon,
sausage and cheese butties as well as
seemingly bottomless brews, the now
annual run took more than 40 Minis
on a fantastic route out of Stoke-on-
Trent and into the Peak District.
Taking in picturesque towns such as
Buxton along the way, as well as quite
possibly the most rural and remote
average speed trap, the well-planned
route (complete with a Google Maps app
equivalent for those driving without the
by the prize-giving ceremony.
Keen to o er something a bit
di erent and recognise those Minis
which wouldn’t stand a chance in
the average show 'n' shine, just two
highly-coveted awards are given out.
The fi rst, the competitive Most Original
Accessory Award, went to Angela
Lewis from Newcastle-under-Lyme
and her giant pink duck – in homage
to the warm Stoke term of endearment
'duck'. The second, The Car That Looks
Least Likely To Complete The Run
But Did Award, went to my SPi Nicole,
despite some sti competition!

"Potteries to the Peaks" on Facebook.
The run finished up at the
Derwentwater Arms in the
heart of the Peak District.
Sam Jukes and Matt Clark, from
