MiniWorld June 2019 9

Part of the Classics World Family
http://www.classicsworld.co.uk

Most Mini fans love The Italian Job film. Those

who say they don't have probably seen it too many

times as it's often shown at Mini events. The comedy crime caper is

universally acknowledged as a classic and, for us, there is the added

benefit of it including Mini Coopers and one of the greatest car chases

of all time. So, with the film reaching its 50th anniversary, it's a great

time to reacquaint ourselves with it and celebrate it in all it's glory.

Author Matthew Field has put together a new book about the making

of the film and has shared some of the information with MiniWorld

readers ahead of its publication in June. See pages 88 to 95 to find

out why why expensive Minis starred in the film and not free Fiats.

Rob Eldridge's love of Mins began when he first saw The Italian Job. He

bravely took on a 1275GT restoration project as a teenager and it became

the wonderful Mini you can see on pages 24-30. Would this car still be

deteriorating in a garage if it wasn't for that film? Elsewhere in this issue (pages

34-40) you can find a Mini that has been converted by Mini modifiers Z Cars who

built a front-wheel drive Mini with Ford EcoBoost engine. Its styling was inspired

by the blue Italian Job Mini. It seems we really are all obsessed with the film!

Of course there is another important anniversary this year as, in August, our

beloved Mini turns 60. It's a bumper year for Mini events and I am really enjoying

getting along to all the shows as there's already a tangible excitement in the air

that will culminate with events in August. I can't wait!

I hope you enjoy the issue.
