Lastly, to the supporters who
make attending our games such
a central part of their summer,
our deep thanks. More than 80
cent out of every euro received
by the GAA is reinvested back
out to clubs, schools and
counties to grow and develop
the GAA at every level. Your
support matters.

Tá siúl again mbainfidh sibh
taitneamh as na gcluichí agus
Rath Dé ar an obair.

Le meas

Laois continue their heroic
march after the run that saw
them deserving winners of the
Joe McDonagh Cup and then the
dismissal of Dublin last weekend.

Cork have shown flashes of
brilliance this summer and had
their radar well-honed with a
phenomenal 1-40 tally against
McDonagh finalists Westmeath.

Two weeks ago Kilkenny were
edged out by Wexford in a
Leinster final epic.

Tipperary’s impressive form hit
a Limerick shaped speed bump
in the Munster final.

Both sides have the chance to try
and get back on track here, but
will need to be at their best to do
so and a fascinating day awaits.

Hurling needs heroes and we
are fortunate to have such a
high number of outstanding
exponents of the art.

Protecting its future is a key
responsibility and in the last few
weeks the hugely successful
Bank of Ireland Celtic Challenge
has had hundreds of U16s
playing in every county, and the
Táin Óg League has brought
more juvenile hurling than

ever to developing counties in
Connacht, Ulster and Leinster.

Aside from this, the work of
the Fixture Calendar Review
taskforce has commenced.
We all know what the problems
and issues are with the calendar.
What we want are solutions.

To this end, I’m calling on all
of you to take part and have
your voice heard. You can
do that by taking part in an
online survey on gaa.ie, or
send a detailed submission to
[email protected]

We owe our hurling heroes our
gratitude for the enormous
enjoyment we derive from their
pursuit of excellence.

Their clubs and families have
helped shape them and should
not be forgotten, likewise all of
those involved in the preparation
of the teams we see today.
Our match officials make an
invaluable contribution to
the wellbeing of our games
and I salute our sponsors,
Centra, Bord Gáis Energy and
Littlewoods Ireland who have
been brilliant partners in the
promotion of this flagship
competition.

TAIM brea sásta fáilte a chur gach dhuine go Páirc an
Chrócaigh inniu.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all here for our
GAA Hurling All-Ireland quarter-final Sunday.
