A
s a student living in a
share house, Sabrina
Chakori could see the
simple solution to a
problem: in order to reduce waste
and create a positive impact on our
environment perhaps we should try
sharing the assets we have.
When she arrived in Brisbane
from Switzerland four years ago,
Sabrina had nothing with her but a
suitcase full of clothes and a laptop.
To start settling in, she asked friends
if she could borrow the things she
needed. Over time, as she started
to accumulate her own possessions,
of Sharing
she would lend to her friends in re-
turn.
Already a passionate and long-
time advocate for sustainability,
Sabrina was researching her PhD
into how eliminating food packag-
ing can influence food manufacture
and in turn social behaviour.
Putting two and two together,
Sabrina found herself contemplating
the thought:if the current economic
system drives the manufacture of so
many products which end up as land-
fill, what may be needed is a new kind
of economy for creating a new kind of
positive prosperity.
