T

he global high strength steel market
is expected to grow considerably
in the next few years, owing to the
rising demand for high strength steel across
various industries, such as construction and
automotive.
According to Zion Market Research, the
global high strength steel market was valued
at $27.10 billion in 2018 and is expected to
reach $47.97 billion by 2025, at a CAGR of

Wear-resistant steel grades such as
the Hardox 500 Tuf developed by SSAB
combines the hardness of Hardox 500
with the toughness of the Hardox 450,
delivering high strength, extreme hardness
and guaranteed toughness in one and the
same wear plate. Typical working conditions
include loading and unloading of heavy
and sharp rocks in quarries and mines,
handling large and heavy steel scrap, and
in demolition when pieces of concrete with

Manufacturers of heavy-duty and special

increasing demand for heavy-duty road
haulage and oversized cargo transportation

solutions that are employed regularly in the
Middle East include low loader semitrailers,
heavy-duty modules, self-propelled vehicles
and lateral beam bridges.
Although 2018 was a diffi cult year
for the truck bodybuilding and trailer
manufacturing industries in the GCC,
which suff ered due to a slowdown in the
construction industry, and lack of legislation
to limit gross vehicle weight and to regulate
the import of second-hand trailers in

the UAE, manufacturers such as Gorica
Industries has seen new opportunities
emerge during the last year. Outside its core
GCC markets, Gorica has been receiving
inquiries from Iraq. Demand from the
oil and gas has been increasing for acid
tankers and frac tanks. Gorica has also been
investing in the product development of
trailers and bodies for emerging applications
such as aluminium tankers. During 2018–19,
the company also launched a number of new
products including aluminium animal feed
bulkers, aluminium grain tipping semi-
trailers, as well as special cargo trailers with
power rollers for Emirates Airlines for the
transportation of Airbus A380 engines.
The animal feed industry, particularly,
has been responsive to aluminium trailers.
Although aluminium has a very small
portion of the market, Gorica Industries
