use of powered access motivates so many
people and IPAF shares their knowledge and
experience to help keep people safe. However,
after 15 years, I’m looking forward to a change
and I thank the Board for its support.”
The IPAF Board recruited Tim Whiteman
as MD in 2004 to take on the challenge of
implementing the ‘I’ in IPAF, i.e., to make the
organisation truly international. At that time,

WOLFFKRAN APPOINTS NEW CTO

Wolffk ran has appointed Dr. Peter Barton as
the company’s chief technology offi cer. Dr.
Barton competed his mechanical engineering
and subsequent doctorate in the fi eld of gear
technology at the Ruhr-University Bochum.
He graduated with honours, in the shortest
time as possible and as the best graduate in the
faculty’s history. Barton also received the SEW

  • Foundation Graduate Award, the so-called
‘Nobel Prize’ for young engineers, and he has
invented and registered numerous national and
    international patents.
As head of Development at SEW-Eurodrive,
a globally operating market leader in the fi eld
of drive technology, Barton had the leading role
    in the start-up-management and development
of the new ‘Industrial Gear Units’ division.
At SEW-Eurodrive as well as at Liebherr-
Components, where he served as general
    manager engineering drive technology, Barton
was responsible for several innovations in the
    development of future-oriented technologies,
    products and strategies.

Dr. Peter Schiefer, CEO, Wolffk ran,
said: “I am delighted to have Dr. Barton at
my side, a highly innovative and dynamic
CTO who knows the industry and who is
extremely experienced in future-oriented
technology, digitization, industry 4.0 and
internationalization. Together with the Wolff
team we want to continue our successful

development.”
Barton said: “The Wolff is always one crane
length ahead! That is both our goal and our
claim, in many respects, but especially in
terms of safety and technology. In this fi eld
we want to continue setting high standards
as highly innovative leaders. More than ever,
the complex and constantly growing demands
of large digital construction sites are very
challenging. We want to set milestones, not
only by diversifying our product portfolio.
Technological leadership in all areas, whether
in the development and patenting of USPs,
in industry 4.0, BIM, life cycle management
and digitization, or in the further innovative
development of assistance systems and the
smart linking of components and assemblies
to form modular kits. Innovation is our
pacemaker, motor and guarantee for success.
For this, we do not only rely on the inventive
spirit of the Wolff s, but also on a fruitful
cooperation with leading universities and
research institutes worldwide,” he added.

APPOINTMENTS

the Federation had around 400 members,
most of which were in the UK, and earned
95% of its revenue from the UK. Currently,
IPAF has almost 1,400 members in nearly 70
countries, and more than 45% of the Federa-
tion’s income is generated from outside the
home market, although income and member-
ship in the UK has not stopped growing since
2004.
