Open cluster NGC 2506 (also known as
Caldwell 54) lies in the constellation
Monoceros. It glows at magnitude 7.6
and measures 12' across. Through a
10-inch or larger scope, its field makes
an interesting scene. Some three
dozen stars hang before a background
glow that glistens like a diamond-
