contemporary society, we’re always planning
for the future or getting lost in digital
distractions, and the ‘now’ becomes merely a
fleeting moment. Fifteen artists encourage us
to take a slower, more contemplative approach
to our daily rituals: to be still, reflect and
listen; more importantly, to inhale, exhale,
and reset.
The exhibition also includes a music video by
Katoomba High School students who stepped
away from their studies to embrace the natural
environment.
John Honeywill’s new series of still life
paintings meander from orchid bloom to
liquorice-all-sort and include unique objects
the artist observed while undertaking a
residency at the Tweed Regional Gallery &
Margaret Olley Art Centre. His oil on linen
paintings depict native flowers and fruits
accompanied by domestic vessels (a glass
bottle seemingly repurposed for a cutting or
quaint jug with a corner worn from touch)
paired on a stark background awash with
daylight, creating a special air of grace and
familiarity.39
