Walker Street Gallery & Arts Centre is South Eastern
Melbourne’s premier art centre. Aug 1 to 31 (opening
Sat Aug 3, 2pm with performance by Silo String
Quartet) Zephyr is an encounter with textiles – their
cultural histories, materiality and connection to

memory. The exhibition is part of the Cultural Threads
festival and explores the metaphors of folds, falls
and fragility whispered by the use of textiles in art.
Zephyr will be held across four of Greater Dandenong’s

    & Minds: Wartime Propaganda. Featuring powerful
    home-front propaganda from the First and Second
    World Wars, an intriguing selection of propaganda
    posters will be on display from the Australian War
    Memorial in Canberra. Posters were an ideal means of
    communicating propaganda: impermanent yet public,
    they were designed to be noticed, and could be
    printed and distributed quickly in large numbers.
