Do you remember what you were doing back in 2003? While it
might not be a significant year to many of us, it probably was to
Jesse McCartney given that it was the year he released his first
solo EP which contained the hit song Beautiful Soul that catapulted
him to international fame and into the hearts of millions of
girls around the world. Since then, the New York-born singer-
songwriter has gone on to release numerous Billboard smashes
like Just So You Know, Leavin’, Right Where You Want Me and She’s
No You. Besides co-writing the Grammy Award-winning single
Bleeding Love, Jesse also has plenty of acting and voice-over
credits under his belt. So what’s next now that he’s back?

FEMALE: How do you feel about coming to Asia for this tour?
Jesse: “I cannot wait to meet my fans! Plus, I’m a major foodie,
so I can’t wait to try the local cuisines.”

F: You took a long hiatus after In Technicolor back in 2014.
What do you have to say about this period in your life?
J: “It was a period of figuring out what I really wanted to do
with my life. It wasn’t that I was on the wrong path; I just felt
like I hadn’t really given myself time to process all the ups and
downs. It was a period of growth.
I bought a house, settled in
with my girl, travelled and
took a break from career
ambitions. It turns out that
I can have both a career and
a life, but that period was
important to getting here.”

F: You released two new songs last year (Better With
You and Wasted). What made you decide to come back
to singing?
J: “The break was partly due to a lack of creative inspiration,
but one day I was asked to participate in something I had
never done before: attend a country music writing camp. It
was a bunch of songwriters getting together for a few weeks
to write country songs for country artists. It was so creative
yet low pressure. Afterwards, all I wanted to do was make
new music for myself. It brought my drive back!”

F: Most of your fans are currently in their 20s and they’re
practically reliving their childhood/teenage years now that
you’re back. How do you think your relationship with them
have grown since?
J: “It feels amazing. The fans have grown up with me and I’ve
grown up with them. Some of my original fans actually bring
their children to my shows now.”

F: If you could pick one career moment to relive, which one
would it be and why?
J: “The first time I heard Beautiful Soul on the radio... or the
first time I walked on stage at Madison Square Garden in
New York and heard 20,000 people scream.”

F: Who are some of your dream collaborators right now?
J: “Benny Blanco, John Mayer and Zedd. I could go on!”

F: Name one of your irrational fears.
J: “I’m scared of snakes. In Los Angeles, USA, where I live,
I go hiking a lot and there have been many people and dogs
that were bitten by rattlesnakes recently.”

F: What’s the next career milestone that you’d like to tackle?
J: “Comedy. I really want to produce, write, direct and/or
act in comedy; all or any of those things. It’s something that
I realised I’ve got a knack for.”

F: Can you give us a teaser on your next album?
J: “My next album will probably be the most personal I’ve
ever done, so do look out for it!”
