FUNNY GIRLS’ STAR AND AUCKLAND
THEATRE COMPANY ACTOR
BRYNLEY STENT OPENS UP ABOUT
SOME MEMORABLE MOMENTS AND
OVERCOMING A HEALTH CHALLENGE
Last word
What’s your go-to technique
for learning lines?
Recording my lines on my phone and then playing it through
my speaker system in the car whenever I’m driving
somewhere. Also I tell myself I can do it – the
moment you doubt yourself is when it gets
hard! I just say, ‘Okay Brynley, this will be
in your brain in 15 minutes – go.’
WHAT BOOK
IS ON YOUR
BEDSIDE
TABLE?
Currently it’s
the recipe book
Plenty by Yottam
Ottolenghi.
You were recently
diagnosed with
PCOS. How have you
coped with that?
I ‘d been on the Pill for 12 years
and it masked my symptoms.
When I came off it things weren’t
right – I struggled to lose weight
(even on super strict workouts or
eating plans), I only got my
period every six months and my
skin broke out. It was a relief to
get a diagnosis as it made sense,
and I knew what to combat! I’ve
learned that food is really
good medicine!
Most
memorable
moment on stage?
I was at drama school, performing in a
play called Earthquakes in London. My
friend Jack and I were doing a scene
and then a real earthquake hit! The
audience made worried noises and
the lights shook a bit. Jack and I
stopped for a second, staring at each
other, then took a breath and kept
going with the scene.
Favourite dish for a lazy
Sunday brunch?
I’m a peanut butter/porridge freak and
I recently got an amazing black forest
porridge with dark chocolate peanut
butter on top from Fix and Fogg in
Wellington. That was pretty dope. I’d
have that every Sunday if I could.
The best trip ever?
Europe. I loved it because my two
best friends and I went on a whirlwind
taster-trip and saw six different
countries in 14 days.
What’s the craziest/
most challenging fitness
class, outdoor pursuit or
exercise routine you’ve
tried?
The Tough Mudder at Hampton
Downs was a pretty wild time.
I have a vivid memory of being pulled
up the side of a huge, slippery ditch
by three strangers covered in mud.
