THE STRESS

EFFECT
When you’re going through a
stressful period, it’s not uncommon
to develop temporary eye-related
symptoms like blurred vision,
sensitivity to light, dry eyes and eye
twitching. But low-level persistent
stress can have a more significant
effect on eye health. When we’re
stressed, we release more of the stress
hormone cortisol, which negatively
affects our vascular and sympathetic
nervous systems and, in turn, affects
our brain and eyes. This can lead
to more serious conditions such as
glaucoma and optic neuropathy, or
damage to the optic nerve, which
affect vision. The takeaway? Stress
damages our health and because
of our hectic lifestyles we have to
do everything possible to reduce
daily stress by learning relaxation
techniques and incorporating
them into daily life.
